    • Mountaineer Inn, 3343 Mountain Road, Stowe VT
    Register

The Stowe ski area and the Mountaineer Inn beckon for a "whale" of a time (this past year many had fun skiing the snowmaking mounds or "whales" on some of the slopes).  Stowe has two main peaks (Mt. Mansfield and Spruce Peak) with a wide variety of terrain for all levels of skiers (the intermediate cruising trails of the Mt. Mansfield Gondola and the runs at Spruce Peak are especial favorites).

The Stowe Mountaineer Inn is located on the Mountain Road about 1.5 miles from the ski area (5-10 minutes by free town shuttle that runs every 20 minutes in peak times to the area and the village and stops right in front of the Inn).

Each double occupancy room has two double or queen beds, private bath, cable TV, WiFi, telephone, and private deck or balcony overlooking the West Branch River or the mountains.  The Inn has an indoor swimming pool, 20-person hot tub, sauna, fireplace lounge and bar, full dining room, and a cozy main floor living room where we gather for our BYOB Happy Hours and then conversation and games after dinner.

The hotel package price is $315 per person double occupancy and $530 per person single occupancy and includes 5 nights lodging, 5 full hot breakfasts, 2 dinners, Sunday night Welcome Party food, all meal and room taxes and gratuities.  After we reach the 20-person minimum, the complimentary package accorded to the trip leader can be used for additional food for the Welcome Party.

    This year there is a BONUS PRICE DROP for the multi-day ski tickets:  Senior tickets (Ages 65+)are:  3 of 4-day $147 ($49/day); 4 of 5-day $180 ($45/day).  Adult tickets (Ages 13-64) are:  3 of 4-day $180; 4 of 5-day $222.  All tickets include 1 flex day.

This trip is also open to cross-country skiers.  There are 5 local cross-country systems:  Stowe Mountain Resort, Stowe Recreation Path (which is right next to the Inn a short walk away), the Trapp Family Lodge network of trails, the Catamount Trail system on Edson Hill Road which is just across from the Inn, and an additional option of the Smuggler's Notch Gap Road just past the ski area which is closed to vehicles in the winter.

Please register for the trip online at www.tohg.org.  Payments may now be made by credit card and the full payment for the double or single hotel package and the ski ticket choice will be charged at the time of online registration.  If you wish to pay by check, your full payment for the hotel package and ski tickets is due by October 1, 2018.

Our Western destination for 2019 is Whitefish, Montana, which is located in the Northern Rocky Mountains of Montana, at the edge of Glacier National Park. Whitefish Mountain Resort gets over 300 inches of snowfall each year, with March and April being the snowiest. Altitude is moderate with a base at 4500 feet and the summit at 6800 feet. They have 3,000 acres with 105 marked runs; 12% green, 38% blue, 44% black and 6% double black; there is a lot of skiing here. Crowds and lift lines are minimal, the runs are wide and well groomed—it’s like your own private mountain. On a clear day, the resort’s notorious snow ghosts-pine trees coated in snow and ice that resemble eerie figures-provide interesting photo opportunities that are unique to Whitefish. There are twice daily Ambassador Tours of the mountain and it is highly recommended to take one the first day to get acquainted with the extensive array of lifts and trails on the different faces and areas of the mountain.

15 Queen-Queen hotel style rooms (all with bar refrigerators, microwaves, coffee makers, and hair dryers) have been reserved at the Kandahar Lodge which is located in the Village at the base of the ski area. Ski-out access is a short walk across the parking lot or by the Kandahar shuttle to the Village lift area; ski-in access is by skiing directly to the lodge or by Kandahar shuttle back from the base lodge. There is a fire-placed living room for Happy Hour BYOB gatherings (we will also have limited access to a special lounge on the 2nd floor), a large outdoor hot tub, a steam room, an exercise room and a massage treatment room, an on-site restaurant and a small food service bar called the Snug Bar. Daily housekeeping and WiFi are included. A European continental breakfast (bagels, muffins, cereal, yogurt, fruit, hard boiled eggs, slices of ham and turkey/chicken, instant oatmeal, coffee and tea) is served daily in the lobby and is included in the rate. There is no elevator and all rooms require some stairs. Kandahar will carry all bags to the rooms; there is a heated boot room and a ski storage room on the main level. There are several restaurants nearby in the Resort Village and arrangements will be made at a later date for 2 group dinners. The unique town of Whitefish is located 7 miles away and can be accessed by the free Snow Bus; there are many shops and restaurants in the town. There are 2 ski rental shops in the Resort Village.

Included in the package is round trip air on Delta airlines; 1 stop in Minneapolis-St Paul each way. Shuttle to and from the Kandahar will be provided by the Kandahar Lodge for those flying with the group. Also included with our 7 night stay is all baggage handling, taxes and gratuities. A Welcome Party will be held upon arrival and is included also.

Package price for lodging and air is $1127.00 per person. Over 70 ski free. Senior skiers 65-69 add $275.00 for a 5 of 6 day lift ticket, adult skiers under age 65 add $311.00 for a 5 of 6 day lift ticket. Single supplement (cost to buy out Hotel Room without a roommate) is $430.00.

TOHG is now accepting payment by credit card. Payment in full is required at time of registration if using a credit card. If paying by check, you have two options; either payment in full or an initial deposit of $600.00 is required at time of registration, a second payment of $527.00 is due October 10 and a final payment, if requesting lift tickets, is due November 10. TOHG will be sending reminder invoices for any payment due. Please register on-line or respond to the notification from TOHG re the ski trip.
