I hope you can hike the Rocky Narrows Overlook Loop with me on May 28 at 10:30 AM.

In 1897, Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr., transferred  The Trustees a 21-acre parcel on the Charles River known as Rocky Narrows, often called the Gates of the Charles. This became the first reservation in The Trustees' system, recognized for its mixed hardwood and evergreen forest and its 50-foot rock walls shaped roughly 650 million years ago.

Today, visitors explore Rocky Narrows and the adjacent Sherborn Town Forest through an extensive trail network. The landscape highlights the 80-mile Charles River at one of its most scenic stretches, where it flows gently between ancient cliffs and steep wooded hillsides.

Seven miles of trails and footpaths lead through pine groves and past wetlands. A canoe landing connects to a two-mile loop that climbs to the Rocky Narrows Overlook, a ledge offering views of steep, hemlock-covered cliffs that form the narrow river passage that gives the reservation its name. We will take about a three mile loop.

Farther south along the trail system is King Philip's Overlook in Sherborn Town Forest, where visitors can look out toward the forests of Medfield and Millis, with Noon Hill Reservation visible on the horizon.

Most of the three mile trail is easy and well maintained but there are some hills, particularly if we do the Rocky Narrows Overlook stretch.  King Phillip’s Overlook is relatively easier to access. There is one stretch of the Red Trail at the edge of a swamp that is often underwater so you will have to walk a few yards in two-inch water.  Wear appropriate shoes. You will want bug repellent.

It is hard to discern an address from the web information but  I think the address is 87 Forest Street.  Do not go to the parking area on South Main Street  The parking lot is small and it overlooks a large green meadow.
