The “Beast of the East” Killington Ski Area will again be our destination. Everyone can enjoy 5 to 6 days of downhill or cross-country skiing and relax in the evenings at The Mountain Inn (mtinn.com).

Killington is one of the largest ski areas in the eastern U.S. (killington.com), with 155 trails for all abilities (28% easier, 33% more difficult, 39% most difficult). Cross- country skiing and snowshoeing are available less than 30 min away at Mountain Top Inn in Chittenden, VT, or Woodstock Country Club.

Located just minutes from the base of the mountain, The Mountain Inn is a modern, rustic hotel. It provides a private shuttle bus for guests only and runs on a regular loop to the Snowshed base area but also can be called as needed.

The Mountain Inn is holding a block of 10 rooms for 20 people. Each room has two queen beds, a minifridge, a TV, and Wi-Fi. The amenities at the Inn include a convenient ski storage area, outdoor heated pool, bar, full-service restaurant, and is home to the Killington Distillery. We also can gather for an après-ski in the upstairs common space.

Package includes five nights lodging (check-in Sunday, check-out Friday), a Sunday night welcome party, and continental breakfast each morning in the dining area.

Week-night dinners will be at a restaurant of your choice - it can be at the Inn, where they specialize in farm-to-table offerings made with locally sourced ingredients, or at one of many local restaurants. We will try to organize at least one group dinner nearby.

    Package prices for 5 nights

    • Double Occupancy: $669.00 pp
    • Single Occupancy: $1,310.00
The package includes lodging, 5 continental breakfasts, and a welcome party.

    Downhill Lift Tickets

Please note that Killington is among the major ski areas accepting the IKON pass. It can be purchased at www.ikonpass.com.

    • Downhill Lift Tickets will need to be purchased online at Killington.com.
    • 80+ ski free and must obtain their tickets each day at the ticket window, not online.
    • RFID Pass holder (IKON or One Pass) doesn’t require  Lift Tickets but you must select this during registration.

    Cross-Country Ski Day Passes

    • Day Passes at Chittenden or Woodstock run $15 - $25.

Once again, we will stay at The Mountaineer Inn while enjoying our skiing at Mt. Snow.

The room package includes breakfast each morning, use of the hot tub & sauna, and the downstairs room for gatherings after skiing.

Alcohol must be purchased there, as they have a liquor license. Of course, what you have in your room is your business, but it must stay in your room.

Dinner may be bought there using their bar-type menu, which I’m told will be extended this year, or you can go out to dinner.

    Group Rates 4 nights

    • Double Occupancy: $357.00 per person
    • Single Occupancy: $714.00 per person

Room rate includes 9% tax and credit card fees.

    Lift Tickets for downhill skiing

    • Mt. Snow uses the Epic pass, or you can buy a daily ticket at the mountain

    Cross-Country Skiing:

    • The Timber Creek Cross Country ski area is not far from the Mountaineer Inn.  The location is on Route 100 across from the north entrance to Mount Snow.  It has large, signage that you can’t miss.
    • A day pass is $15.00 for seniors.
    • The “Moover” (cow painted) shuttle has a drop off and pick up at this location if you want to use it, although parking in the area is also very convenient.  They rent both cross country and snowshoe equipment.  The trails are groomed and well-marked even for the snowshoe trails.  However, even the trails labelled as easy still required good snowplow technique to handle some ups and downs.   So those not comfortable with such ups and downs may want to consider the snowshoe option.

Please register online at tohg.org, and pay with credit card by December 15, 2023, to reserve your room.

    Cancellations

Room count must be confirmed by December 15. Cancellations after December 15 are not refundable, but we will do our best to refund your reservation if a replacement is found.

    • Silver Fox Inn, 70 Packards Rd, Waterville Valley, NH 03215
    Register

As we have done for the past few years, we are again planning a trip to Waterville Valley. The trip was very well attended last year, and we are hoping for a similar success this year. A few years ago, Waterville opened a new peak called Green Peak. It offers 14 New trails, 3 Greens, 7 Blues and 4 Black diamonds, and the skiers who attended last year’s trip thoroughly enjoyed skiing in the new area. They are now equal in size to Loon in that both have 61 Slopes and Trails, and both offer the same vertical drop.

The Ski Touring Center is world class and is within walking distance to the hotel that we will be staying at. It has an excellent reputation for all levels of skiers from beginners to experienced.

We have reserved rooms at the Silver Fox Inn, which is conveniently located in Town Square within walking distance to most everything in Town square as well as the Cross-Country Touring Center. Most of the rooms offer two queen beds, but some offer king beds for those who would prefer a king bed. Included in the rates is a shuttle bus that runs every 30 minutes with a convenient pickup and drop location at the end of the hotel parking lot.

The area also has the White Mountain Athletic Club, but unlike last year, there will be an additional charge to gain access. The club has indoor pools, jacuzzi, indoor tennis courts, free weights and weight room, cardio room, 1 hour of open skate time at the ice arena, and more.

We are planning a Pizza Party on the night of our arrival (Sunday) to be held in one of the above-mentioned rooms, which again is BYOB and is included in the price of the room.

Breakfast is included in the rate each morning, which will be in the dining room. We are also planning four dinners which will be a chef’s choice buffet including a beef option, chicken or fish option, vegetarian option with rolls, butter, salad, starch, and vegetable as well as a dessert table which, is included in the price of the room rates. There is a dining room in the Silver Fox that they open for group dinners, depending on the size of the group and again is BYOB.

If you would prefer not to eat in the hotel on one of the nights, there are several restaurants either within walking distance or a one-minute drive away. Coyote Grill, Valley Pub & Restaurant, La Hacienda Mexicana, La Tasse, Olde Waterville Pizza and Snowy Owl Pub.

The Hotel does not have a Liquor License so we will be allowed to BYOB to all activities at the hotel. There are several meeting rooms that we can use for any social gatherings. We were planning to have a social hour each evening after skiing (both kinds) where we can meet, bring appetizers, wine, beer, or the drink of your choice alcoholic or non-alcoholic.

Everyone who attended the trip in past years found the social gatherings areas a wonderful place to relax and enjoy Après Ski each night.

Package prices 5 nights (waitlist only)

    • Double Occupancy: $515.00 Per Person
    • Single Occupancy: $875.00

Package prices 4 nights (Arrival Monday, Jan 29)

    • Double Occupancy: $430 Per Person
    • Single Occupancy: $718.00 .00

The package includes the Pizza night on our arrival, and dinner each night. Again, all of these will be BYOB.

    • Lift Tickets
    • Three days out of four US$ 146.00 for those who want to do both DH and XC
    • Four days out of five $194.00

    Cross Country Passes

The cost for the Cross-Country Touring Center is approximately $15 per day and passes must be purchased separately at the Touring Center. The prices will not be firmed up until Thanksgiving.

We will return to Sugarloaf Resort in Carrabassett Valley Maine, where we have previously enjoyed the varied terrain of the third highest peak in Maine, with some skiing above the tree line.

For the fourth time, we will stay at the Sugarloaf Inn located on the mountain, with ski-in/ski-out facilities. The walk from the back door of the Inn to the chairlift is short, and the lift takes us directly to the main Sugarloaf Plaza. From there, it is easy to buy tickets or refill RIFD cards and hop onto lifts to begin a day of fantastic skiing.

All trails lead to the slope side of Sugarloaf Alpine Village, which offers some restaurants and shops. In addition, besides alpine skiing, Sugarloaf also has The Outdoor Center, Maine’s largest Nordic center, for cross-country skiers tucked into the woods just minutes from the base area. The lodge has a full Nordic retail shop, rental center, and café – all surrounded by some of the most picturesque trails in New England. The Sugarloaf Explorer Shuttle provides transportation to that area along its route.

We have reserved single and double rooms, each with its own bath, for about 20 people. While the Inn has no elevator, the friendly staff will readily take luggage up to the rooms upon request. The second floor is the location of the Shipyard Brew Haus restaurant, where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are available.

This year, breakfast is not included. The cost is $100.00 for five days, and the option needs to be stated and added to the reservation, or choose from the Shipyard Brewhouse Menu and pay each day as other guests do.

The Inn is allowing the purchase of a limited 5-day breakfast option with a choice of two menu items:

    1. The White Cap – breakfast sandwich with two over medium eggs, American cheese, and a choice of meat, served on an English muffin with home fries.
    2. The Birches – two eggs any style, home fries, choice of meat and toast.

The Shipyard brewhouse menu can be viewed at: https://ship- yardbrewhaussugarloaf.com/menus/ They are closed for the season right now but will open in the fall.

Ski lockers are located on the second floor near the back deck so that exit to the slope with equipment in-hand is easy.
