Join Meredith P for a walk in the Quabbin Woods from Gate 40 to Dana Common; an approximately 3.5 or 8 mile round trip walk on a mostly paved road. Dana was a town that was removed when the Quabbin Reservoir was created to provide water for the cities and towns of eastern Mass. through the MWRA water system. The plan is to have lunch on the common where various foundations and rock walls still exist. At this point those that do not wish to continue on to the reservoir which adds another 4 miles (8 in total) can return their car. Meredith and those who wish to continue on to the edge of the reservoir will do so after lunch, This additional portion of the walk does include a fairly steep decline to the water's edge, which means a climb on the way back.
Please bring adequate water, lunch and bug spray.
Here is a little history of Dana.
