Let's try something different. We'll meet at Cashman Park in Newburyport and bike along the Merrimack River. Passing downtown Newburyport we'll bike on the street. We'll pass Joppa Flats, perhaps a pair of penguins (yes, you read that right), the National Refuge, Plum Island Airport and cross over the bridge to Plum Island. Here we'll contine biking on the road, turn left and head to the northern part of Plum Island cycling past a lighthouse and ending at the water's edge. It's a beautiful ride with lots to see! This is mostly on road and is flat except for an ascent on the bridge to Plum Island. The trail is about 12 miles in length round trip and perhaps two hours long. We can stop at Bob Lobster for a seafood lunch on the return.
There is free and plentiful parking at Cashman Park. Sally Snyder Way is a short, narrow street off Merrimack St.
Helmets are required. Tail light or blinker recommended. Also, bring a spare tube and a water bottle.
Please be sure to cancel online if you need to or call if canceling day of.
