Join the Walking/Hiking group for a tour of the Ipswich Wildlife Sanctuary on June 4. If you are using GPS, be sure you enter 87 Perkins Row in Topsfield, NOT Ipswich. We will meet at the Visitor Center. This is a Mass Audubon reservation so there is $7 parking charge and maybe a $4 entry fee.
We will walk the Rookery trail which includes a walk through an interesting rock maze constructed by one of the early owners of the property. It overlooks a pond with a variety of birds, lily pads (in season), and ducks. Those interested in birds will find many species here and some may even eat seed from your hands. We will then walk along Waterfowl Pond Trail to the old Stone Bridge. There are often a large number of turtles visible from this bridge. Both of these trails are often muddy and may even have puddles we need to cross if the weather has been wet. At one point, beavers have constructed a lodge over part of the trail. We will then either take the Averill Island Trail or the Drumlin Trail depending on how far you want to walk. The Drumlin Trail is shorter.
I suspect bugs will be present by June so bring insect repellent.
