Almost a tradition. Lets take a stroll to enjoy Boston’s Holiday lights. We will start at the Park Street Visitors’ Center, where there are restrooms, and continue through the Common to the Boston Public Garden and down Commonwealth Ave for a bit. This is a round trip walk of about 2.5 - 3 miles.
The Common is home to the Frog Pond which, weather permitting, should have skaters enjoying the ice. In the Garden the Swan Boats are hibernating for the winter, but we can stop and visit with Mrs Mallard and Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack, and Quack. The ducklings quite often are wearing festive attire.
Comm Ave, part of Boston's Emerald Necklace, is known for its beautiful townhouses and is usually very well decorated for the holidays. It also has a number of sculptures; including Alexander Hamilton, a Declaration signer and Secretary of the Treasury. John Glover, a Revolutionary War hero from Marblehead, who helped row George Washington across the Delaware River Christmas Night in 1776. There is also a Memorial to the 9 firefighters lives lost in the Vendome Hotel fire in 1972 and there is a Women’s Memorial honoring Abigail Adams, Lucy Stone and Phillis Wheatley. There are more statues along the parkway for people connected to Boston in various ways.
After we come back Comm Ave I will try to get a reservation for those who would like to go to the Bull and Finch Pub (the bar/restaurant which was the inspiration for the original Cheers television show.
Heavy Rain/Snow date will be December 13. I will try to cancel online day before if weather looks bad.
Bring a water bottle, and PLEASE dress for the weather and cold temperatures. It can be very windy in Boston.
