Join the walking gang members for an approximately 3 mile walk around the pond; with stops at the Thoreau homesite and possibly Emerson’s Cliff. The 2 miles around the pond are relatively flat and well maintained. The plan is to wander off from the pond for a bit it and this area will have more roots and rocks. Sturdy shoes or hikers are recommended. Poles only if you feel you need them.
The visitors center has a wonderful Ken Burns documentary about Thoreau which is well worth the time to view it, a gift shop with a lot of historical information on Concord and Thoreau; and there is also a replica of Henry’s cabin near the parking lot.
This is a Mass state park so bring your park pass. I am not sure when they start to charge there. We will meet at the visitor’s center at 10:30. Bring a bag lunch as there are plenty of places to sit outside if the weather is nice.
Bug spray will probably be a good idea.
Heavy rain will cancel, I will try to send a notification the night before if that is necessary.
