Volunteer Opportunity.
The Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in Newburyport has scheduled a beach cleanup day. This is just prior to the Refuge closing of the beach end of Plum Island for the annual Piping Plovers breeding season that starts April 1.
The meet location is Lot 1 on the refuge and there will be volunteers from the Refuge to provide gloves and trash bags, which they pick up along the beach where you leave them above the high tide line. You can pick your spot to walk and pick up trash, or ask where they would like you to go. The Refuge closes their end of the beach, the public end of the beach remains open.
The hours are 9 am to 3pm. Meredith will be at Lot 1 at 10 am if you would like to join her. You can come whenever and enjoy the beach and a walk and a little volunteer activity. You are welcome to bring anyone you wish with you as this is an open to the public activity. My grandson loves to do this in the spring and again in the fall.
This is a rain or shine activity.
If you have a National Park Senior Parks pass bring it. Without the pass, they might collect a small fee per carload.
