A dozen TOHG members met in South Acton to bike along the Assabet River Rail Trail. It was a sunny but breezy day as we set off. We bike through Maynard until we came to the Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge. Most of this trail was dirt roads as it followed the river. Late autumn foliage ensured a beautiful scenic ride. We passed the Crow Island Airstrip shortly before our destination - Honey Pot Hill Orchards where we stopped for hot cider and apple cider donuts. The farm was busy with school groups fascinated by some of the farm animals onsite making for an entertaining spectacle for us.
Alas, all good things must come to an end so we dusted the powdered sugar off our faces and returned to our starting point. But not before stopping on a bridge to admire the scenery and then discovering a kayak rental location on the river. The kayakers in our group will follow up on this. Trip length was about 11 miles round trip on a beautiful trail.
