Twenty three TOHG members had a beautiful cool and breezy day as we enjoyed a unique rail biking adventure with Scenic Railriders through the NH countryside. Our transports were four seat pedal rail bikes which used a stretch of abandoned railroad tracks in Concord NH, parallel to the Merrimack River. It’s an easy ride as the tracks are level. We rode just over 6 miles, crossing a couple of bridges, passing corn and hay fields as well as a working dairy farm. To turn around, we stopping at the Hannah Duston Memorial Statue, which notes the spot where Hannah and several other 17th century Haverhill MA women and children were held as prisoners by Abenakis after a raid on Haverhill. Hannah killed her captors and escaped with the assistance of 2 other captives.
Lunch followed at The Common Man for many of our Gang.
This is the last year for this ride as the railroad is being converted to a rail trail next year.
