Great Canadian Adventure

Tuesday, October 13, 2026 8:40 AM | Anonymous member (Administrator)

Twenty-five TOHG members headed north to St Andrews New Brunswick in mid October for several days of golfing, hiking, biking and adventure. Although the weather was a mixed bag we all found ways to make the best of it as we explored the area.

Highlight of the trip was driving across the ocean floor at low tide to Ministers Island which just a few short hours later would be under 15’ of water. The island is home to a 50 room mansion built by Sir William Van Horne, President of the Canadian Pacific Railroad in the late 1800s.

Neal Schmitt led a group through the award winning Kingsbrae Gardens and then met up with the biking group for lunch at the cafe. And still later Nora McKenna led several members to the Algonquin Country Club for an afternoon of golf with amazing views of the Bay of Fundy. And the biking group enjoyed a brisk and sunny day of biking on the bike trails and through St Andrews itself.

Kingsbrae Garden is a multi-award-winning 27-acre horticultural masterpiece in St. Andrews by-the-Sea, New Brunswick. Featuring over 50,000 perennials in themed gardens, serene ponds, streams, an old-growth Acadian forest, and diverse wildlife, it offers a breathtaking experience for nature lovers. Kingsbrae Garden is also home to an impressive collection of sculptures.

After the walk we met the bicycling group at the garden café for a great lunch. All enjoyed the sunny day after a couple of days of rain.
